Why fire doors?

Fire/smoke doors are a crucial component of the infrastructure of a building whether it be a commercial, multi-story or residential property. Fire and smoke doors are designed and built to contain flames and smoke.  They prevent flames and fire from spreading and protect people and property. Fire Doors are used every day and are subject to damage, wear and tear over time. The longer a fire is not checked, the greater the danger, which means maintenance is important.

Why inspections and maintenance?

The longer a fire door is not checked, the greater the danger of doors not functioning correctly in an emergency.

Fire doors effectively save lives, but only if they work properly so regular inspections and maintenance are vital for fire doors and smoke doors functioning correctly.

What is a fire door?

Fire doors consist of individual parts, including the leaf and frame, seals, essential hardware such as hinges, latches and closers. All elements need to work harmoniously to  ensure that the fire door will work as designed in the event of a fire. Any part of the assembly which has been incorrectly specified, installed or has become damaged in some way can compromise the whole door, with major consequences.
